Step 1: assess layout and location of your home

Step 2: advise on suitable systems
Motion sensors and door and window sensors make up the basics of many home alarm systems.
When the alarm is activated, motion sensors detect movement while window and door sensors can identify if a window or door (of course) has been opened while the alarm is activated.
Step 3: keep your budget in check
One of the most important factors is a customer’s budget. It guides all types of household projects.

Step 4: consider add-ons

As mentioned above, sensors on windows and doors are only activated when an unlocked window or door has been opened, so do not take into account invasions through broken glass (e.g. a smashed window).
Sound sensors are a useful add-on you might like to consider, where sounds such as breaking glass activates the alarm while it is armed.
✓ PANIC BUTTONS:
These controls are located at various locations around the interior of a home and within seconds can be pushed to activate an alarm (silent or otherwise). Panic buttons are extremely useful for elderly residents who require a straightforward method to gain help rapidly.
✓ SENSOR LIGHTING:
Sensor lighting is not only a good deterrent if a would-be burglar is approaching your home and activating a light, but also it’s also incredibly useful for you and your family when arriving home late at night. Sensors mean you do not have to leave a light on all night purely for those few minutes when you are arriving home.
✓ INTERCOM / VIDEO SYSTEMS:
See who’s on the other side (without anyone knowing you’re home!) with an intercom and video system. These are useful if you want to spy on who’s rung your doorbell or even speak to them through the intercom without having to open your front door.
